The National Register of Citizens (NRC) is the register containing names of Indian CITIZENS.

The main time that a National Register of Citizens (NRC) was readied was in 1951 when after the lead of the Census of 1951, the NRC was set up by recording specifics of the considerable number of people listed during that Census.

The NRC will be currently refreshed to incorporate the names of those people (or their relatives) who show up in the NRC, 1951, or in any of the Electoral Rolls up to the 12 PM of 24th March, 1971 or in any of the other allowable reports gave up to 12 PM of 24th March, 1971, which would demonstrate their essence in Assam or in any piece of India at the latest 24th March, 1971. All the names showing up in the NRC, 1951, or any of the Electoral Rolls up to the 12 PM of 24th March 1971 together are called Legacy Data.

In this way, there will be two prerequisites for incorporation in refreshed NRC – 1.) presence of an individual's name in the pre-1971 period and 2.) demonstrating linkage with that individual.

Overlooking their names remembered for the refreshed NRC, residents will need to submit Applications Forms (family-wise).

Application Forms got by Govt will be checked and dependent on the consequences of confirmation of specifics put together by the residents in their Application Forms, the refreshed NRC will be readied. In any case, to manage the cost of another chance to the candidates before distribution of the last NRC, a draft NRC will be distributed after check of the Application Forms and the residents are offered opportunity to submit claims, protests, amendments and so forth.

After check of every such case and protests, the last NRC would be distributed.
